Lomanco recommends using power vents, solar vents, or turbines on a hip roof.  Most static vents will not provide enough ventilation when properly installed on a hip roof.  Ridge vents are normally not a good option on hip roofs because you normally do not have enough feet of ridge to fulfill the exhaust requirement.  

Note - DO NOT use ridge vents on hips.  When installed on hips, the exhaust/intake system is indefinable.
