No!  If the unit is installed directly to an on/off switch, the warranty is void.  When wired directly to a switch, you are bypassing the thermostat control and causing the unit to run continuously when in the "on" position.  You want the unit to run automatically when the attic is too hot or there is too much moisture in the air.  When the unit runs off a switch, it will either run all the time or not run at all.
